5 Things You Can Do To Make Your Next Game Great

It’s officially the dog days of midseason for our gym leagues. And at about this time teams start looking at the standings, feeling a little glum, and are in desperate need of a boost.  Well lucky for you we’ve got the cure. Here are 5 things you can do to make sure your next game is the best game yet!

1. PACK A SNACK TO SHARE WITH YOUR TEAMMATES

Until Doc Brown actually creates a flux capacitor there’s no better way to relive the glory days of peewee soccer than halftime snacks. Show up to your game with orange slices, freezies, cookies, or whatever your 8-year-old self wants to indulge in and you’ll be a hero in the eyes of your teammates. Plus chances are at least one team member didn’t have time to make dinner.

2. GIVE YOUR TEAM THE MOTIVATIONAL PEP TALK THEY NEED

If snacks aren’t enough of a boost maybe your fellow Emelio Estevez fans can help with a riveting speech to get your team riled up for the game…Because just when you think they’re about to break apart, Ducks fly together!

Or for those who like football, maybe Al Pacino has the cure. Your team is about to find out that life, like football, is just a game of inches.

3. DRESS TO IMPRESS

Everyone remembers The Big Green, right? The one where the goalie envisions actual knights, pirates, mummies, and ninjas coming down the field to score on him? (Check it out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C19heV7758U) While it may be impractical to carry a full suit of armour or a peg leg and pirate sword in your gym bag, you can still intimidate your opponents by coordinating your team clothing. Matching jerseys are a great start, or you can take it a little further, like this awesome foursome below.

4. CREATE AN EPIC TEAM CHEER

Nothing says “THIS is an EPIC team” like a sweet pre-game cheer. On the flipside, nothing says “We’re an ok team” like the classic move of 4 people yelling out 4 different things on the count of 3 (Gooo Blue, Purple, Team, Ballers). If you don’t have some sort of basic team cheer, you’re gonna have a bad time.

If you DO have a team cheer but are looking to up your game, why not learn from the pros? New Zealand’s rugby team has mastered the art of intimidation with the Haka. And there’s no way this won’t scare the pants off your opponent.

We’d also seriously consider giving bonus points to any team that can pull this one off

5. DON’T FORGET THE POST GAME PARTY

beer mug2If you’re looking to celebrate after a big win, or drown your sorrows after a crushing loss, there’s nothing like a cold beer to finish the night off. Whether it’s heading to your local pub, your nearest café, or home for something more intimate, it’s the perfect nightcap to a long day of memorizing routines, preparing snacks, and rehearsing your favourite speeches. And if you were really cool, you’d even invite your opponents.

There it is, 5 easy steps to team bliss.  So when you’re at your next game, try forgetting the score and instead concentrate on getting these right! While you may not end up pushing the Patriots out of total football dominations, rest assured your team will leave with a lot more smiles than, say, Bill Belichick. And isn’t that the true meaning of sports?
