What’s the saying? Just because there’s a goalie, doesn’t mean you can’t score? Well, this goalie made the best play of all and helped these two love birds fly off into the sunset together.

Mark & Amy’s Story

“My husband Mark and I met through the TCSSC just over 6 years ago. He had joined the league while on a temporary work assignment in Toronto from Edinburgh, Scotland, and I had been playing in the women’s leagues for a couple of years. We were each playing co-ed soccer on different teams, on different nights of the week, but happened to have a goalie in common who arranged a friendly exhibition game between the two sides during one Christmas break from league play.

Mark’s team beat us handily, and his captain contacted me about joining them the following season. Turns out my husband is a big believer in the ‘social’ inclusion in the league title and would consistently arrange for a post-game beverage location before each weekly game even started. I was used to just packing up and heading home after games, but eventually started joining in for the pints (and laughs!)

The rest is history, as they say. We got married in Mexico in April 2011, and even had a couple of members of that original team in our wedding party.”
