So, what do you do?

One thing that’s always bothered me when meeting someone for the first time, or catching up with an old friend or relative, is how quickly we default to this question “So, What Do You Do For Work?”

In my opinion, there is so much more to someone than simply how they pay the bills.  Their hobbies, interests, wants, desires, passions, likes, dislikes, etc. are all things that I think are much more important.  Job and title is pretty low on that list.

Still, this question comes up a lot! Luckily for me I always have a big smile on my face when I’m asked.

I love my job. I love talking about the fun things I do, the great people I work with, and the amazing members we have! But I often don’t know where to start when the question is posed, since I work for a special company in a pretty unique industry.  Explaining what I do can be difficult for some people to grasp. And you wouldn’t believe how often I get “Cal, what do you really do?” even from family and friends.

I don’t work at a bank cashing cheques.  I don’t work at a restaurant waiting tables. I’m not a butcher, baker or candlestick-maker.  I am a league administrator of adult rec sports and events at the Sport and Social Club.

League Associate

The truth is, I am lucky enough to wake up every day and work with a great team to create, organize, and execute some incredible sport and event experiences for a community of awesome people looking for a release after their daily grind.  Whether it’s that floor hockey game you’re looking forward to after a long day of meetings, or a weekend dodgeball tournament to bring your classmates closer together, or even a pub night where you meet that cute girl you saw across the court at your basketball game, creating these opportunities is what drives me. This is what I really do at the Sport and Social Club!
