Why Can’t I Drink At My Softball Game?

Okay it’s time to address the elephant in the room – let’s talk about drinking in the dugout.

We know that many of you want to enjoy a nice cold brew during your softball games… and listen, we get it!  What’s better than a warm summer night, a great game with your crew, and a bag of Spitz in the dugout? Add in an ice cold beer and it sounds heavenly.

So why must the Sport & Social Club turn into the Fun Police every time we spot a beer? Well it’s simple, all diamonds are public space and it’s illegal to drink on public property. We didn’t write the law but we do have to abide by it.

Now you may be asking yourself, why should you care? Well, if TSSC players and teams are caught drinking in a public park, we are at risk of losing ALL of our park and diamond permits. This is a very real threat from the City of Toronto. One beer for you could mean 10,000 people losing a place to play sports.

Okay Debbie Downer, what’s the good news?  While crushing beers at your game may be a no-go, we do have a ton of awesome Sponsor Bars offering great deals for after your game!  Check them out here: http://www.torontossc.com/bars/.

If you’re still not sold, we’ve got a few more reasons why you can’t drink at your softball game:

  • Alcohol will turn your slick fielding skills from Derek Jeter to Homer Simpson

Homer Baseball

  • You become a major liability to your teammates and opponents
  • Drinking beer while trying to get in shape is counter productive.sabathia

So for all reasons above, and especially for your love for the game, please take your booze to the bar!
